Giorgia Boller-Bruni

Artist Spotlight

Who are you and what do you do?

Swiss multi-disciplined artist whose works explore identity and aura through photographical documentation, digital manipulation and collage patterning. Currently, I am focusing on the creation/re-creation of glitch patterns through both digital and analogue methods.

What inspires you to make art?

I am a curious person. I have been taught to always question everything and its this curiosity that propelled me into exploring different pathways in art. Also I find that I am at my calmest when I am making art so I am constantly in need of that.

How & where have you spent Covid-19/lockdown?

I decided to spend the lockdown in London to finish my bachelors degree at Central st. Martins. After this, I was able to focus on personal development and my hobbies as well as exploring various processes to further my practice.

What inconvenient, uncomfortable, awkward work spaces have you been forced to take up in order to make work over the past year?

I am very lucky that my work is mainly digital so I was able to easily integrate my practice into my home space, however, living with flatmates who also were working from home made it difficult to work in analogue mediums. I found myself using our shared living room at night, trying to be cautious of noise as to not wake anyone up.

What things from the past year would you like to see retained after the pandemic?

How has the pandemic affected your artistic practice, temporarily and permanently?

Essentially the pandemic helped me to reanalyse what I want my practice to be. I found myself revisiting old processes and materials as well as exploring new methods of image making. I feel as though this pandemic and lockdown allowed me to create works for myself that I would not have thought to make before.

And finally, what advice do you have for someone who's struggling to make art right now?

I hope that taking time for yourself and not feeling bad about missing out on things will continue.

Welcome to the club mate, we got cookies!!!

More seriously thought, I think building a network of people who will be honest with you and who are willing to listen ad help with any crazy idea you have is extremely beneficial to creating art.
