Lily Sophia Day

Artist Spotlight

Who are you and what do you do?

Hi I'm Lily and I'm an actor, writer and all round creative person. My first love is acting but over the last year I've started writing poetry and plays which has been very therapeutic.

What inspires you to make art?

I'm mainly inspired by people, history and nature. But also I'm inspired by my own experiences and feelings that I need to get out of my head.

How & where have you spent Covid-19/lockdown?

I spent the first lockdown with my family who luckily I get on with very well but now I'm back in London and it's good to have my own space. Through lockdown I've been doing uni work online which isn't the greatest but I like to try and make the best out of a bad situation and I've been able to make work I'm proud of.

What inconvenient, uncomfortable, awkward work spaces have you been forced to take up in order to make work over the past year?

I had to do a workshop in my family living room and I literally barricaded myself in so that no one could interrupt me.

What things from the past year would you like to see retained after the pandemic?

I think lots of people have become very socially conscious and are using their voices to try and make a change which I really hope continues. Personally, I have become aware of my own faults and am trying to improve myself and be proud of the work I make.

How has the pandemic affected your artistic practice, temporarily and permanently?

And finally, what advice do you have for someone who's struggling to make art right now?

"It has encouraged me to fill my time with creativity even if I'm not actively making anything."

"Just make something even if you don't think it's good."
